With the Victorian state election looming, the Greens Candidate for the seat of Melbourne has received criticisms over clients he has represented as a barrister. Brian Walters QC has been accused of ethical hypocrisy by members of Victorian Labor for representing as a barrister a coal mining company and an alleged Nazi war criminal. Some Labor members say the criticism is a fair one, but the legal profession say it’s a cheap shot—and one that demonstrates a profound ignorance of the law.
