When Cathy McLennan graduated from law her first posting was to the Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Aid Service where within days she found herself dealing with a murder case. More followed as did a constant stream of cases of children jailed for petty offences. Her experiences form the basis of Saltwater, a book which lays out the true stories of a legal system not able to deal with the real problems many indigenous children face.
