A new initiative the CSIRO team up with the Indian Institute of Science has shown promising signs that more sustainable forms of steelmaking are possible. The initiative would see agricultural waste deployed as a substitute for coal and gas which would significant reduce the carbon footprint when it came to producing steel.

Stephen Hill asked Warren Flentje from the CSIRO industrial decarbonisation program to explain how green steel works to reduce the carbon footprint of steel-making facilities.
