Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders broke the rules preventing them from enlisting in the world wars and managed to sign up anyway. As well as those that served overseas, many Aboriginal communities supported the war effort from home, including coastal communities who acted as radars when the Japanese attacked the Top End.
