The Greens and advocacy groups are fighting to get children out of detention. Again. ChilOut, a non- Government group that campaigned to end the detention of children under the Howard Government, have reactivated in order to fight the fight once more. According to ChilOut and the Greens, over 700 children are currently being held in detention, despite changes to the migration act in 2005 that stipulated children only be held “as a last resort.” Now the Greens are introducing a bill to parliament, that would see children exempt from mandatory detention.
