Experts are urging public transport officials and members of society to assist women who are potential targets for sexual harassment. A 2016 survey has found that more than 60 per cent of young women aged between 15 and 19 feel that they’re unsafe while commuting on public transport. Dr Bianca Fileborn, a criminology lecturer at the School of Social Sciences UNSW says the idea of women-only safe spaces is not addressing the issue of women being harassed on public transport. Other experts says women internalise their experiences, which can cause them major mental harm.
