Mental health advocates have condemned the Western Australian government for turning the states only female psychiatric unit into a mixed gender unit. In a report released today, the Council of Official Visitors says the closure of the female-only Dorrington ward at Graylands Psychiatric Hospital is potentially harmful to patients suffering sexual trauma. They say many female patients don’t feel safe on a mixed ward, and shared units may hinder patient recovery.
