South Australia is buckling under its housing crisis. It’s part of a dire national picture of widening socio-economic divides and a surge in people struggling to put a roof over their head – the worst seen in a generation.
But how do we fix it? That was the central question at this week’s Adelaide community election forum on housing and homelessness, which drew more than 100 people.
Those impacted by housing insecurity and frontline workers, shared first hand experiences with candidates for the Adelaide electorate.
As the crisis widens, a number of people say their voices have been left out, urging politicians to act as voting day approaches.
Forum hosted by Adelaide Day Centre for Homeless Persons, Anti-Poverty Network SA, Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Council, Brian Burdekin Clinic, Pilgrim Uniting Church, and Better Renting.
