An overseas report about the risks of cancer amongst firefighters has got the attention of federal members of parliament. The statistics are staggering- firefighters are twice as likely to develop cancer than the general population. But despite these shocking figures, it’s almost impossible for firefighters to claim workplace compensation for cancer – something a new bill is hoping to change.
