Despite Labor’s  commitments to zero extinctions in 2022, almost 26,000 hectares of threatened species habitat have been approved for destruction in 2024 – twice as much as previous years, according to new analysis by the Australian Conservation Foundation.

42 new species and ecological communities were also added to the threatened species list and a further 14 were up listed to a category nearer to extinction.

Environmentalists are urging Labor to follow through on promised federal nature law reforms, including a national Environment Protection Authority.
