Avigail Abarbanel was just like any other Jewish woman growing up in Israel. She went to school then completed her compulsory military service, something she says gave her a sense of pride, a sense that she was doing the right thing for her country. She also grew up with the belief – as she says all Jews growing up in Israel were taught – that everyone outside of Israel hates the jews. And that the reason for the conflict with the Palestinian people was that they were as anti-semitic as everyone else. Then she came to Australia and everything changed
