PNG government hooked on deep sea mining, locals unconvinced

In a world first, Papua New Guinea has given Nautilus Minerals the green light to mine gold and copper in the Bismark Sea. Deep sea mining is a relatively new venture, and its environmental effects are causing controversy. Activists protested at a conference about mining in PNG this afternoon, concerned about the effect of deep sea mining in the region.
