The Great Barrier Reef is running out of time. That’s the message from new research suggesting that our natural wonder could be gone within the century, another victim of over-development and climate change. Despite these dire threats, the issue has failed to even raise a blip on the political radar.
Dredging, coal ports, extreme weather, rising ocean temperatures, runoff, sea heatwaves, acidification are just a handful of the threats facing the reefThe Government has finally conceded the health of the reef is “poor”, just as UNESCO is on the verge of deeming our natural wonder a “World Heritage Site in Danger.”
