Queensland’s government says that it will protect the reef at the same time as proceeding with industrial development along the coastline. But one of the world’s leading marine scientists has told The Wire that there’s a ‘fundamental incompatibility’ between the large scale industrial development envisaged in Queensland and the Barrier Reef’s health.
