Australian governments are taking an increasingly permissive approach to uranium mining, with NSW receiving expressions of interest for Uranium exploration, and Queensland lifting its ban on uranium mining. But anti-nuclear campaigners are also gearing up their campaigns against the industry. They say that Australia is carving out a lonely path in a world where most developed economies are moving to wind down their nuclear industries. A rally was held in Sydney today to mark the end of a 60-day period for Expressions of Interest into uranium exploration. Speaking at the rally was Richard Broinowski, a former Australian diplomat who has just released a book called ‘Fallout from Fukushima’ – it tells the story of Japan’s nuclear disaster.
