A Bill passed in Queensland last Wednesday relating to gay and lesbian civil unions has caused a furore among sections of the community. As the smoke cleared above Parliament House, Matt Tewhatu spoke to the stakeholders both celebrating and condemning the passed legislation.

The passing of a Bill allowing same sex relationships to be recognised by the Queensland Government is being hailed as a step in the right direction toward equal rights. A conscience vote saw the Civil Partnerships Bill was passed in state parliament late Wednesday evening with 47 MPs voting yes and 40 no.
