In response to pressure from the Greens and from the public, Communications Minister Stephen Conroy announced a media enquiry at a press conference today. The already established Convergence Review will report a month later.
The inquiry will be conducted by former Federal Court justice Ray Finklestein QC and will report to the government at the end of February next year. It is the first such enquiry for 20 years and will look at whether regulatory changes are needed given how different the media lansdscape is now.
