Adulterers could be stoned to death in the Indonesian province of Aceh, with the state’s parliament passing Sharia Law. Aceh is semiautonomous from Indonesia, able to create laws through a democratically elected parliament. In a move that’s shocked human rights activists in the Asia-Pacific, the majority Islamic parliament yesterday moved to instate Sharia Law. But is this what Muslims in Aceh want and either way, will it last?
