When former NSW Premier Bob Carr opened a supervised injecting room in Sydney’s King Cross seven years ago, it was a bold step. The centre’s head, Dr Ingrid Van Beek has resigned due to her frustrations with the NSW government’s hesitation to make the service permanent. Spokesperson for Reba Meagher, NSW Minister for Health, told the wire today that although the centre has been successful, its a highly specific service and further research is needed.
