NSW council first in Australia to ban trans fats

A motion to ban trans fats by a Sydney councilor has highlighted the need for comprehensive legislation on the issue. The Howard government’s 2007 restaurant industry roundtable resulted in self-regulation by fast food giants McDonalds and KFC, but with no monitoring or standards put in place.
