New biodiversity legislation has been passed in South Australia. New laws introduce a range of protections for flora and fauna across the State, as well as a general duty that applies to individuals, businesses and governments not to harm biodiversity.
Originally pledged by SA Premier Peter Malinauskas, the new laws represent a renewed commitment to biodiversity which according to 2023 State of the Environment report has faced ongoing decline.
