For more than 100 years the South Australian town of Port Pirie has been a leading hub for lead and zinc smelting. However because of this, since 1889, the residents of the city have been exposed to various chemicals that have had a series of effects. Recent research from Macquarie University looked into these risks from smelting and found that children living in Port Pirie in particular have been exposed.
