Young transgender people seeking access to gender affirming hormone therapy no longer require court approval.
The Family Court recently heard the case of a 16-year-old transgender person known as Kelvin, who sought to begin the second stage of hormone treatment.
The Court ruled the second stage had been incorrectly classed as a ‘special medical procedure’ rather than a ‘therapeutic treatment’, giving parents the right to consent without court involvement.
