Around 70 per cent of the total global carbon emissions come from cities and towns. As of today 35 local councils around Australia have signed up to Cities Power Partnership, a Climate Council initiative to work to slash emissions locally through solar solutions, lower emission transport initiatives and communal power storage. The Northern Beaches council in New South Wales has a special interest in the effects of climate change with a string of surf lifesaving clubs threatened by rising sea levels.
