Costs blow out on US carbon capture and storage plant

A major US power company has sidelined a carbon capture and storage project after costs blew out prompting environmentalists to claim the technology is unviable.

The Kemper County coal-fired power station project would supposedly remove 65 per cent of its emissions through burning coal gas and using storage, but remains three years behind schedule and $US 4 billion over budget.
