Indigenous students at Yirrkala Homeland School in north-east Arnhem Land now have the opportunity to connect with their heritage in a new curriculum that aims to enhance their Indigenous identity.

Through emotion-based activities in the classroom, the well-being initiative teaches students to address their emotions in an attempt to improve their future well-being.

The curriculum uses metaphors of the land and water to tackle issues of high suicide rates, self-harm and poor attendance at school.
