It’s 19 years since the ‘Bringing Them Home‘ report was tabled in parliament, outlining the plight of the Stolen Generation and decades of forced removal of Aboriginal children from their families.
National Sorry Day is an opportunity to reflect on the hurt, dispossession and loss of culture those children experienced, and the disconnection that subsequent generations will continue to experience as a result.
It is also a day for education, to work towards reconciliation and recognition of this shared Australian history, to ensure it never happens again.
