NSW Premier Mike Baird put the GST back on the nation’s agenda today with a new compromise proposal that would see the bulk of extra revenue from a GST hike given to the Federal Government on the condition that the states receive $7bn to fund health and education. This comes after a Newspoll that today revealed most Australians are opposed to raising the GST to 15 per cent as part of a package which includes tax cuts and compensation for low-income earners and welfare recipients.
