Australia has backed away from a commitment to sign a global agreement on reducing fossil fuel subsidies at the climate change summit in Paris. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says there were clauses in the Fossil-Fuel Subsidy Reform Communique the government wasn’t comfortable with. She says the government has already committed to fossil fuel reductions under a G20 agreement. Giles Parkinson from Renew Economy says the largest subsidy of all is the removal of the carbon tax.
